Why should I choose Blade Runnerz? - What a fantastic question! In your career as a stylist you have undoubtedly used other sharpeners before. Truth be told, most of us very similar techniques. We inspect your shears, we disassemble them, clean them, run them through a honing machine, work them on Japanese stones, reassemble, polish and return. We do the same process but where Blade Runnerz really excels is our customer service. We understand the needs and schedules of stylists since our team has over 20 years behind the chair. Our mission is to provide you a high end experience at an affordable price just like you provide your clients.
So what is your sharpening process? - Blade Runnerz' process is rooted in the Japanese Hamaguri technique of sharpening convex shears. Upon receipt of the shears and interaction with the stylist we will ascertain any issues that are being experienced. We will inspect your shears for any visible nicks, dings, bends, dullness or spots where the hair is folding. In our mobile sharpening lab, we will disassemble the shears and clean them before we begin sharpening. Blade Runnerz' technique is to sharpen the shears on a honing machine and Japanese water stones back and forth progressing from a higher grit to a finer grit to work the edge to razor sharp. The last step before reassembly is a high rpm polish with our proprietary polishing compounds. Once reassembled and tested, Blade Runnerz cleans your shears with anti-microbial spray before returning.
How often should I get my shears sharpened? - We would say that you typically want to get your shears sharpened around 3 to 4 months after your last sharpening. You might re-evaluate if your schedule becomes seasonally heavy to have your shears sharpened sooner than that however. Whenever you need your shears sharpened Blade Runnerz will be available for you!
After my shears got sharpened they are bending hair. Do they need to be re-sharpened? - More than likely no. If you just got your shears sharpened and they are starting to bend make sure you check the tension of your shears. It is extremely common for shear screws to come a little loose after disassembly. Tighten the screw to your comfort level and re-test.
